About Julie

Julie A. Lago, MSW, LICSW, is a seasoned professional in the field of social work with a passion for supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health needs. Armed with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of New Hampshire, along with a Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Children’s Health and Disability, Julie has dedicated her career to pioneering innovative approaches to care and advocacy.

Julie is also the visionary behind Bookends Therapy®, a groundbreaking program aimed at bridging the gap between intellectual disabilities and mental health care. Through this initiative, she has not only provided direct oversight and coordination but has also facilitated statewide training, empowering professionals to better serve this vulnerable population.

As an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire, she shares her wealth of knowledge and experience with the next generation of social workers, teaching courses on Understanding Developmental Disabilities and Field IV. Furthermore, as a Field Liaison, she provides invaluable oversight and support to MSW interns during their placements.

Julie's dedication to advancing the field of social work extends beyond her clinical practice and teaching roles. She is a sought-after speaker and presenter, delivering impactful trainings and presentations on topics such as Strengthened Interagency Collaboration and Improving Communication When Advocating for Mental Health Needs. Her contributions have been recognized nationally, including receiving the START Network Partner Award and presenting at prestigious conferences such as the National Association of the Dually Diagnosed Ohio Conference.

In addition to her professional achievements, Julie is an active member of the NH Center for START Services Advisory Board, as well as the ABLE NH Mental Health Task Force, further cementing her commitment to advocacy and collaboration in the field.
